Introducing Signals: Infrastructure Intelligence for Safer Deployments

Today we're excited to announce Signals, a new feature that brings intelligence to infrastructure deployments. After months of development and conversations with customers and design partners, we're making Signals available to all Overmind users.

Why We Built Signals

We've seen this challenge repeatedly in our customer conversations: how do you deploy infrastructure changes confidently without slowing down development velocity? The traditional approach forces you to choose between speed and safety — either you move fast and risk breaking things, or you gate every change behind extensive manual reviews.

Senior engineers spend hours each week reviewing routine changes they've approved dozens of times before. Meanwhile, truly risky changes, the first-time modifications or unusual patterns, don't get the focus they deserve because they're buried in a sea of routine updates. This tribal knowledge is powerful, but it doesn't scale.

Signals solves this by analysing your actual deployment patterns and giving you intelligence about what's routine versus what requires careful review.

How Signals Works

Signals analyses your infrastructure change history to understand what "normal" looks like for your team. Instead of treating every security group update or AMI change as potentially dangerous, it learns from your actual deployment patterns.

Take routine database parameter updates. For one team, these might happen daily as part of automated performance tuning. Completely routine. For another team that rarely touches database configs, the same change deserves extra attention. Signals understands these contextual differences by analysing your historical modification patterns.

Routine Analysis

Our first Signal type, Routine Analysis, is now fully available and tracks modification patterns for every resource and attribute in your infrastructure. When you plan a change, Signals tells you things like:

"Daily deployments for the api-server over the past 2 weeks"
"First time changing this database configuration"
Consistent routine deployments with 15 events/day for the last month"

The analysis operates at multiple levels, from overall deployment assessment, through individual resource analysis, down to specific attribute changes, giving you granular insight into what's routine versus exceptional.

Signals uses a -5 to +5 scoring system where positive scores indicate established, safe patterns and negative scores flag areas of the PR that need your extra attention.

Integration with Your Workflow

We ensured Signals fit into your existing development workflows. If you're using our GitHub Actions integration, you'll see Signals analysis automatically appear in your PR comments with deployment confidence summaries and direct links to detailed analysis.

For teams using other CI/CD systems, the CLI provides full access to Signals analysis in any automation pipeline.

What's next

While Routine Analysis is the foundation, we're already working on additional Signal types that will provide even richer deployment intelligence.

We're developing Blast Radius Signals to understand the true scope of your changes, Environment Context to automatically distinguish between production and staging deployments, and Timing Intelligence to recognise peak hours and maintenance windows.

Policy Intelligence will validate changes against your organisational rules in real-time, while Custom Signals will let you encode team-specific deployment patterns.

Each new Signal type builds on our core philosophy: capture and operationalise the tribal knowledge that currently lives only in your team's collective memory.

Get Started Today

Signals is available now for all Overmind users. If you're already using Overmind, you'll see the new Signals tab in your change analysis.

New users can sign up for a free account and start analysing their infrastructure changes immediately.

We're excited to see how teams use Signals to build deployment confidence and accelerate their infrastructure velocity. As always, we'd love to hear your feedback as you explore this new capability.
